Questionnaires and surveys use ACASI (Audio-Computer Assisted Self- Interview). Studies have shown that respondents are much more likely to answer questions, particularly sensitive, personal questions, with greater honesty using ACASI, than with face-to-face or even paper questionnaires.
Viewpoint questionnaires can be accessed in a range of formats, can be accompanied by a choice of avatars, and can be branded with local images – in the form of graphical backgrounds, logos etc. Questionnaires can be presented to the respondent in multiple languages.
Viewpoint was recently used as a survey in relation to Hepatitis B within the Burmese population in Western Australia. The survey was conducted in Burmese.
One of the aims was to compare paper, Viewpoint ACASI, and face-to-face interviewing. As per the preliminary analysis, there was a higher reporting of sensitive behaviours in self-administered paper survey (highest) and ACASI (second highest) than face-to-face interview. However, in the paper survey, respondents skipped relevant question items or answered irrelevant questions.
