Engaging children & young people

Ferlisha

Viewpoint opens the dialogue with children, providing practitioners with a method to help young people effectively record their views, wishes and experiences to inform assessment, decision-making and planning, using self-assessment and self-reporting

'It’s a better way of communicating.'

YP feedback

Viewpoint is an independent organisation with a reputation for conducting high quality research on social issues in a wide range of social policy areas, including health, crime, education, careers, employment, and social attitudes and families. It specialises in issues involving children and young people.

The Viewpoint methodology involves the use of computer assisted self-interviewing (CASI) methods of data collection and recording. This computer-based approach was first introduced in 1994 using software specially developed by the Viewpoint Organisation.

‘I can write down my thoughts and feelings better than I can say them.’

Since this time Viewpoint CASI tools have been extensively developed, including the introduction of tools to increase accessibility for people with disabilities.

question

Viewpoint communication tools have been developed in consultation with specialist workers and young people across the globe.

Viewpoint’s flexibility allows it to be adapted and used in a wide range of settings (the home, the office, schools…), and because it is adaptable - customisable in looks and content (including the use of speech, different languages, symbols, branding…) - Viewpoint fits seamlessly with your organisation’s requirements and those of the children and families you support.

Different versions of Viewpoint are available for specific groups of children and young people (children looked after, youth offending teams, children with special needs…) as well as adults (parents or carers, victims of youth offending…), and new versions of Viewpoint are constantly evolving in line with emerging policy, research, and best practice.

Off the shelf or bespoke questionnaires and surveys are available, which can be accessed by either specific young people and families, or anonymously as part of larger scale eSurveys.

The data collected gives you a direct line to what the children and young people supported by your service really think, and is available at your fingertips in the form of live and online reports, enabling workers and managers to better understand their needs and concerns and to take action on their behalf.

Viewpoint Reporting

As well as gathering the data from your young people it is essential to analyse that data to inform assessment, planning and supervision.

As young people communicate using Viewpoint's tools, their views and experiences are captured live enabling practitioners and practice managers to generate Child's Journey or distance travelled reports.

The graphical representation of the data makes it easy to read.

Evaluation summary reporting

Children and young peoples' responses are available for 3 monthly, 6 monthly, or annual reporting in a graphical format designed specifically for management groups such as local boards, operational and strategic management teams e.g. corporate parenting panels and LSBs.

Testimonials

Viewpoit testimonials

“Viewpoint Audio Computer Assisted Self-Interviewing (A-CASI) was introduced as part of the regular care planning process to increase young people’s participation at both individual and collective levels. The methodology has been effective in reaching the feelings and concerns of young people who are often reluctant to explore and share their views in face-to-face discussion, but who can be much less resistant when using an apparently more neutral and less threatening audio-enhanced computer. The project has revealed enthusiasm amongst young people for using Viewpoint A-CASI.”
